WHERE ARE OUR PERSONAL DATA?

When we browse the internet or simply when we go shopping in an establishment, we are often asked for a huge amount of personal data, in order to be able to control customers or application users. We are asked for our name, telephone number, ID number and e-mail addresses, among other things. At some point, we don’t even know where or to whom we have given our data. In short, we lose control of our data.

Therefore, we ask ourselves, do we have any way of controlling our data? And the answer is yes.

RECOGNISED RIGHTS AS OWNERS OF OUR PERSONAL DATA

With the entry into force of the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), users have the recognised right to exercise certain actions against the different organisations that hold and use our personal data.

The new regulation has forced all entities that make use of personal data to have a channel through which data subjects can exercise their recognised rights. One of the new features of the GDPR is the need for the exercise of rights over my data to be as simple as the system used by these entities to collect the data. In other words, it is no longer acceptable for a mobile application to ask me for my data in an online form and then to exercise my rights I have to send a written letter to an industrial estate in who knows where.

That is why most organisations now provide an email address so that you can exercise your rights under data protection regulations.

WHAT RIGHTS CAN I EXERCISE WITH ANY ENTITY?

The rights recognised by the owners of the data, and which can be exercised before any entity that has or believes it has our data, are as follows:

  • Access: I can ask the entities to show me what data they have about me and the purposes for which they are processed;
  • Rectification: I can ask any entity to update my data, so that they are true and do not generate confusion;
  • Deletion: I can ask the entity that processes my data to delete my data from its databases;
  • Opposition: I can object to an entity processing my data, without the need for erasure;
  • Portability: I can ask an entity to send me all my personal data in an orderly fashion or to send it to the entity of our choice;
  • Limitation: I can ask an organisation to limit the processing of my data, i.e. to use it only for certain purposes;
  • Stop sending commercial communications: I can ask an organisation to stop sending me advertising or commercial communications by withdrawing my consent.

DO YOU WANT TO EXERCISE YOUR DATA PROTECTION RIGHTS?

The problem with exercising our rights is finding the email address we mentioned above. Usually ‘hidden’ in small links on web pages, and within a huge privacy policy. In other words, not very accessible. Another problem is the requirements that are demanded of us to exercise our rights, which are not always clear and extensive.

This is why we at Cysae have decided to help everyone to exercise their rights in order to be able to control their data. To this end, we have created a form with which you can easily exercise your rights before numerous entities. To do this, we have looked up in advance the e-mail addresses where you should exercise your rights with each entity and the requirements they demand.

FORM FOR THE EXERCISE OF RIGHTS ARC POL

To fill in the form we have made available to you, all you have to do is fill in the detailed fields with your personal details and select which rights you are interested in exercising, providing the necessary documentation if required. Finally, click on the send button, and in this way the entity will receive the document indicating the rights you wish to exercise and you will receive a copy of this document and the accompanying message.
